Nam-myoho-renge-kyo

This Mantra is known as the miracle mantra and describes the essence of Buddhism - the conviction that we have within us at each moment and the ability to overcome any problem or difficulty that we may encounter in life; a capacity to transform any suffering.

In English, the mantra means "Devotion to the Mystic Law of the Lotus Sutra" or "Glory to the Dharma of the Lotus Sutra.”

To chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is to bring forth the pure and fundamental energy of life, honoring the dignity and possibility of our ordinary lives.

Chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo will give you the energy to keep trying to achieve your goals. Faith and prayer are the engines that fuel our efforts-we have to make our own efforts. As we chant, we bring out our best selves and become the solution to our problems.

Chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo enables us to bring forth limitless life force. Those who base themselves on chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo are therefore never deadlocked. The important thing is to continue chanting every day, no matter what happens. Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is the fundamental power of the universe.

When you chant mantras your mind releases positive energy that decreases the negative thoughts or stress. Chanting mantras is an ancient practice that calms your mind and soul. Scientific studies have found that chanting mantras like om for 10 minutes can decrease anxiety and depressive symptoms in the human body. Chanting increases endogenous neural oscillations in the low frequency delta-band, especially in the posterior cingulate cortex (PCC). This brain region shows the largest decrease in centrality during chanting in a highly-trained meditator.

Rev Helen James is exploring chanting and filmed this to encourage people to have a go. The traditional position for chanting is sitting with back straight but Helen likes to walk in nature and chant. She loves these oaks trees near her home and feels empowered and grounded putting her back to them whilst chanting. She is using 108 Mala beads - but you can chant for as long as you want - at least 15 minutes is often recommended. The beautiful sunset over Bredon’s Norton and potent light adds to the experience - even the sheep seemed to be curious about the chanting and were drawn to the energy!

Helen wants to honour all the elements of earth, air, fire, water and the filming and editing of this video is lovingly guided by Spirit. Helen is filled with so much gratitude.

Namaste.
